FairBNB started with a simple observation. Renting a home in cities like Mumbai means paying brokers one month's rent as commission, blocking two months as deposit, and facing endless disputes with no fair resolution. We asked ourselves: what if we could replace brokers with code, deposits with smart contracts, and disputes with a transparent community jury?
The result is a trustless rental marketplace that won the international BNB Hack 2025 competition, securing a $7000 prize from BNB Chain. This recognition validates our approach to solving real world problems through blockchain technology.

The Story
The problem was clear. Rentals involve high brokerage fees, risky deposits, unverifiable listings, and slow dispute resolution. Trust is low. Both tenants and landlords face exposure to fraud or loss. Security deposits are locked for months. Agreements are manually maintained. Disagreements escalate to expensive legal challenges.
We built FairBNB to solve this by combining three core innovations: property NFTs for verifiable listings, smart contract escrow for automated payments, and a decentralized anonymous jury for fair dispute resolution. The name FairBNB reflects fairness, the rental domain, and the BNB Chain ecosystem that powers the platform.
How It Works
Property NFTs
Every property is minted as an NFT containing:
- Rent amount
- Deposit amount
- Required monthly dispute fee paid by both parties
- Property documents and metadata
- Evidence storage pointers on BNB Greenfield and IPFS
NFTs create a permanent, tamper proof record that helps verify ownership and terms. This eliminates fake listings and ensures every property has a verifiable digital identity.
Trustless Escrow
The smart escrow is the core of FairBNB. It works by:
- Locking rent, deposit, and dispute fee from both parties
- Automatically settling funds if there is no dispute, with both parties receiving their dispute fees back in full
- Keeping funds locked until jury delivers a verdict if a dispute occurs
The escrow ensures that neither side can cheat, delay, or modify payment conditions. Payments are automated and transparent.
Decentralized Jury DAO
The dispute process is handled by an autonomous jury mechanism designed for fairness:
- Both parties submit evidence in the form of documents, photos, and timestamps
- Jurors are selected randomly from the pool of stakers
- All jurors must stake platform tokens to participate
- Juror identities remain anonymous to prevent influence or bias
- An odd number of jurors guarantees a clear majority
- The losing party's dispute fee is distributed to the jurors as compensation
- The winning party receives their dispute fee back from escrow
This model ensures incentive compatibility, encourages honest voting, and removes centralized control. The community governs itself.
Technical Architecture
For recruiters, this project demonstrates end-to-end blockchain development across multiple domains:
Frontend:
- Vite, React, TailwindCSS, and ShadCN with neo brutalist design system
- Responsive UI optimized for rental workflows
Backend:
- Node.js and Express for API services
- Integration with decentralized storage systems
Blockchain:
- Smart contracts written in Solidity using Hardhat and Ethers.js
- ERC-721 NFT standard for property tokenization
- Custom escrow contracts with dispute resolution logic
- DAO governance mechanisms for jury selection and voting
Storage:
- BNB Greenfield for decentralized storage
- IPFS as fallback for redundancy
Network:
- BNB Chain testnet for fast, low cost, and reliable execution

FairBNB transforms the rental economics:
- Eliminates traditional brokerage fees which often equal one month of rent
- Charges only 2 percent escrow fee

- Enables jurors to earn sustainable income using dispute fees from losing parties
- Scales DAO activity and ecosystem participation as rentals grow
For tenants, this means lower upfront costs and secure deposits. For landlords, it means faster rentals and automated payments. For the community, it creates earning opportunities through jury participation.
